What the intro workshops cover:

Our Intro Workshop has been specifically designed to give you a perfect taster of the Active Krav Maga community in just 90 mins!

We don’t claim to turn you into a black belt in such a short time. Instead, we will:

  • Give you a taster of the drills used in regular training,
  • Teach you simple, effective self defence solutions,
  • Improve your understanding of your right to self defence,
  • Enable you to get a feel for the AKM culture (we know it’s epic, but come see for yourselves),

Our awesome team will support and welcome you!

Trying new things can be nerve wracking, even for the most confident of people. The team at AKM is supportive and encouraging. When you arrive for your workshop, the team will be there to greet you and chat about their training experience, to help you feel more relaxed.

The benefits of self defence training

Regardless of age or fitness levels, anyone can benefit from Krav Maga training.

On the street you cannot choose your attacker so I am a firm believer in training with everyone and I am an advocate of mixed classes.

Krav Maga is not about ‘winning’ a fight in a ring, it’s about surviving and avoiding violent confrontations.

Other benefits of training Krav Maga at AKM includes:

  • Increased confidence in day to day life
  • Increased fitness level
  • Increased strength
  • Improved tactical thinking and decision making under stress
  • Improved reaction times
  • A supportive team to motivate you to achieve your best

Workshop structure

The workshops consist of a mix of discussion, games, and combat drills.

Warm up games:

For the warm up, we like to have some fun to break the ice! Typically we will use some games to work on scanning and awareness skills.

Training awareness is crucial for any practitioner, at every level. This is a key skill for us to avoid potentially dangerous situations.

Combat drills:

For many people, a big block to coming to signing up and trying the class will be not knowing what is expected of them physically.

The drills are as challenging as you make them and you can push yourself to whatever level you are comfortable with. We want to assure you, that no matter your fitness / experience level, you will be in a space that provides encouragement and support.

We will cover efficient and effective drills that help you:

  • Generate power in your attacks
  • Unlock your inner aggression
  • Maintain distance from potential attackers

We will provide you with regular breaks so you can get some water and we will blend in discussions so you can get a taste for the theoretical and practical elements of training.

In the Intro to Krav Maga workshop, we want to give you workable tools for keeping yourself safe. We want to make you feel empowered when you realise what you can achieve and learn in just 90 minutes.

What do you need for the workshop?

All you need for this workshop is:

  • some comfortable workout clothes,
  • a bottle of water,
  • a willingness to learn.

Feel free to come with friends, family, or by yourself!

The AKM team will be there to welcome you, make sure you’re comfortable, and to encourage you on the day.

Can anyone do it?

Yes! Regardless of age or your fitness capabilities these workshops have been designed so everyone can come away knowing they’ve learnt something.

What if I have injuries?

Beforehand, we always make sure to check if you have any injuries. You know and are in control of your bodies. If we ask you to do anything that may not be appropriate due to an injury, don’t!

We will come and offer an alternative that works for you.

Am I too old?

I have had the privilege to teach people in their 70s! At AKM we believe you’re never too old to keep learning. You know your body’s limitations and how to work with them and we will be there to support you.

Can I come alone?

Yes! This is an incredibly brave thing to do – AKM team members will be there to welcome you and make sure you have a great time.

Can women do it?

Yes! The AKM club is founded by Anna Martensson. There are lots of ladies now regularly training and kicking ass.

How physically intensive will it be?

The workshops are a blend of discussions and active drills. As we’re from ACTIVE Krav Maga there will be some elements that are physically intensive. Remember, you control the pace of what you’re doing. This means it will be as intensive as you want it to be. If you don’t train martial arts and it’s new for your body you will be engaging muscle groups you wouldn’t normally use, so you will feel it the next day! Make sure to rest up after and drink lots of water to help your body recover.
